Paro Tshechu, One of the most important annual religious festivals in Bhutan. It has been held every year since 17th century when Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Ponpo Rigzin Nyinpo initiated the festival together with the dedication of Paro Dzong in 1644.

Paro Tshechu is held in the beginning of 10th Day of 2nd Bhutanese lunar month and ends on the 15th day and in 2020 it is from April 4-8. The festival offers opportunities to witness the Bhutanese’s unique culture and history. Attending the festival, it is believe that one gains merits.

The last day of festival ends with display of a Thongdrel, the Guru Thondrel. The Thongdrel are the impressive example of Buddhist art and considered sacred that simply seeing Thongdrel said to cleanse the viewer’s sin.
